Emanation Audio

The audio cable:
The audio cable is an essential part of the audio system. The quality of the sound coming from the speaker is highly influenced by the design of the audio cables that connect the various parts of the audio system. Every cable that conducts the tone is audio cable. This tone can be optical or electrical. Cables designed for conducting the electrical signals can be made for low-level, line-level or efficiency/output-level tone. The latter ones are usually the speaker cables. For example, the cables of a record player conduct low-level signals to the preamplifier, while cables connecting the preamplifier and the amplifier conduct line-level signals. The audio cables can be different from each other in that whether they are designed for conducting symmetric or asymmetric electronic signals, and they can be mono- or stereo design, on the basis of whether they conduct one or two different but coordinated sound information. The cable is usually hooked up electronically to the joining by screw connection or soldering. The proper choice of the solder has great importance because it affects the attainable quality of the sound. The same can be said about that although screw connection results in direct connection between two materials, in due course we have to consider oxidation that leads to the deterioration of the sound quality. Due to oxidation, the connection between the two materials is weakened. First of all, oxidation reduces the dimension of the conducting surfaces of the two materials.

Our procedure:

We apply the securing of the cable to the electrical outlet on clean surfaces by soldering, so that we make a direct connection between the two insulating material by using the favourable characteristics of screw connection. This way, we make such a direct connection between two materials that does not get oxidized. Before soldering, we join up the two clean surfaces mechanically, so a little thin solder gets into between the soldered surfaces. The applied material is high-purity unleaded tin, and it will not be decisive in the sound quality because of its thin layer, it behaves quite neutral. The heat of the soldering iron and the period of soldering have significant roles in the process of a proper quality soldering. The highest quality power supply and the appropriate phase connection are used to attain the optimal functioning of the soldering iron.

The cable sheath:

We can design cables on the basis of two principles.
In the first case, we separate the inner core energetically from the elements above it, while in the other one, we build up the structure of the cable on the basis of that particular connection. In the case of the energetically insulated version, a special oil product is used on the surface of the signal liner that reduces the effect put on the conductivity of the Teflon sheath around it by reflecting the outlet energy from the cable, before it could interact with the Teflon. This way, it energetically isolates the conductor from its environment. This process occurs throughout the length of the cable. The role of the Teflon is to insulate electrically from the conductor underneath and to maintain a mechanical distance between its sheath cladding and the conductor. In the case of the Gold Series, we do not need this distance because in that case we need to have a connection between the material of the sheath and the conductor energetically, so it plays a role in the conductivity of the cable, so it is not just a cladding material on the cable. Generally speaking, it is true that it is worth insulating the sheath from the conductor, otherwise the material of the sheath causes distortion in the signal.

The assembly of the cable:

To eliminate the disturbances, the assembly of the cable proceeds as follows:
In the case of Reference Series, the base material is 0.06 mm diameter pure copper, on which there is an enamel paint as an insulating layer. In that of the Professional Series, it is also copper, but here the diameter is 0.07 mm. The serial number of the cable corresponds of order to the quality of the wires assembled in a template and put manually side by side. e.g. In the case of Reference 500, there are 500 copper threads in the conductor put next to each other. In the first place, we have to assemble the core wire manually because as our experiences show, the torsion of the cable affects the sound image that has to be the most ideal possible as for the permeable cable is concerned. In the template the cables run parallel side by side. The cross-section derived from the number of the wires laid next to each other has a crucial effect on the quality of the energy transmitted by the cables. The information affects the sound image, the attainable dynamic range, the dimension of the bandwidth, the measure of distortion, the tone of the sound, all in all, the sound fidelity. That is why we carried out a lot of experiments to find the optimal conductivity cross-section. The cable is direction-dependent, thus one should do the connecting according to the direction of the electricity running in the circuit. After we achieved the desirable cross-section, we should remove the enamel paint at the connecting points, for which we worked out a special method. We prepare the cleaned surface necessarily and cover it up with soldering tin. Then comes the production of the desirable insulating thickness made from Teflon. We use Teflon because it has the highest conduction resistance that makes it a good insulating material. The higher the signal carrying electricity, the thicker it is. Approximately, it ranges from 0.5 – 2.5 mm by cable type. Then comes the procedure of the insertion into the sheath, after that the mounting up of the plugs. All cases, the cable goes through quality checking and we also listen to all of them.

The output:

The cables need about 150-200 hours of running in by the time they achieve their optimal conductivity. During this process, they are capable of producing the most extreme phenomena, e.g. the complete lack of bass, distortion, shifts in sound frequency etc. Since the cable is direction-dependent, the connecting corresponds to the direction of the label. As for the permeable cables are concerned, we have to pay attention to the fact that they transmit the faults of the audio system with high fidelity, while cables having a tonic characteristic can compensate these faults.

Conclusion:

Interesting the phenomena that while the eye settles for the limitations of three dimensions, for the ear it means a significant constriction presuming a high quality audio system. The ear is able to conceive not only vibrations transmitted through musical instruments but it can also convey the underlying emotional and intellectual content. It presumes a lot more dimensions, which can only be perceived if the used and lined audio components are able to transmit them. The perfect kind of sound is attainable when the energy, the information, the emotional and intellectual content are proportional in the signal carried and displayed by the cable. Altogether, these are the conditions of a good cable.

Reference Series

Mounted with 2x150 or 2x500 filaments in the case of connecting cables. In the XLR cables there are 3x150 or 3x500 wires. Cords are mounted with 2x300 or 2x500 wires similarly to speaker cables, but in the case of the latter one, there is a possibility of double-blending that means a double multiplier in the quantity of base material. In cords the grounding is installed with thick solid copper. The sheath protects against damages to some extent. A digital cable contains 280 threads, has a coaxial layout, is 75/110 ohm, while an USB cable includes 4x100 wires.

Professional Series

The type PRO 600 contains 625 wires/core in the cases of Interconnect and XLR cables. Cords have 2x625 and for grounding 300 threads. The sheath has a fire and damage resistant material.

Gold Reference Series

In this case the aim was not only producing the best possible cable (which of course underlines a subjective point of view) and audio system dependent, but also it should be the best aesthetically, besides it needs to meet the highest technological standards.

Design:

Gold Reference Black, Crystal, Rose, Silver, Chrome, Gold 24carat colour markings according to the sheath, in the case of connecting and XLR cables. You can order cords in serial numbers of 150, 250, 500. Also, in this case the serial numbers of the cables are given by the number of filaments in the core wire, with the difference that the feedback is five times more in the negative core wire. The cord is shaded, has a massive impact- and fire resistant sheath.

The cables in general:

They are completely assembled manually, except for the plugs, and the sheath of the Reference and Professional Series. Besides, the whole assembly procedure is done with a meticulous manual work for the sake of the quality without compromises. The sheath of the Gold Reference cables is made totally by hand, from several thousand single pieces. During the development, we carried out loads of experiments, the essence of which is this product series. We tested them continuously and made comparisons with the already known reference cables, in more and better systems. The construction of the cables happens with Neutrik, Dietz-Kácsa, Audioquest, WBT or Furutech connectors, and they are definitely value for money.

The beginnings, so around 2000

I put all my efforts so that my hi-fi equipment have the best possible sound, which was selected with sacrificial work and had all my savings in it. But it did not want to succeed. Although I spent a lot of money on more and more expensive components – that I considered more suitable – the sound did not get any better. I changed the system several times, the cables and the sound remained. Then, one of my dear friends popped in and brought his own audio cable system. Needless to say, the system got wings. It was the moment when I realized that the most important thing is the cable. Immediately two problems occurred. Which cable meets my needs? How much does it cost? After doing some research, I found out that the cables recently available on the market and has the quality level suitable for my needs are priceless, and the second-hand ones were a shortage. Then came the idea of designing a cable for myself, a much better one than anyone would be able to make for me. In my mind I was preparing for the great work, thinking about the best and available material. After I had figured it out, all I had to do was to find the material that had all all these properties. Since wires let the energy flow through themselves, even when they are not connected, I had nothing to do but to perceive the level of energy difference between the two ends of the conductors, and so I could find the ideal material. Then, I had to assemble the raw cable so that the flow of energy should be enhanced to the maximum. This resulted in the numbering of the cables derived from the quantity of the assembled conducting wires, appeared in the cross-section; obviously higher numbering assumes higher level of energy. After that came the setting of the distance between the wires, and the most effective way of the assembly afterwards. Then, you could deal with such “trifles” like the quality and the effect of the sheath and plugs on the conductivity. Since I liked it, I had it run in. This needed at least 150 – 200 hours per cable. I was happy because my favourite hi-fi equipment got better and better sound. I made all kinds of cables the system required, moreover I reconnected a few speakers as well. I was very enthusiastic. Interestingly, during the assembly of the cables I noticed that the process in which I put the core wires next to each other, demands a lot of energy from me. Of course, I was curious about the quality my cables represent compared to other ones, thus I tested them in a lot of different systems and I also listened them up. Anyway, the output was very reassuring for me considering the price-value ratio, and I was satisfied with the sound quality of my stereo. My friends also discovered my cables for themselves and they asked for the ones I had already run in, so the rough sounding, raw ones were left for me. By and by, I had to assemble several more, so that I could give them to my friends. This time I had to listen to their complaints during run-in. So, I got used to running-in the cables first, and then giving them to my mates, probably for everyone's content, thus the damning terms were dropped. Gradually, the soldering technology developed, and the soldering material and the connection between the materials to be soldered turned out to be very important. As my system was expanding, a demand for higher level of energy cables appeared. Therefore, the development went on continuously on all fronts. The base material of the cables is pure copper. After I had achieved the maximum that came from the material and the assembly technology, it came to my mind whether to make an even better cable could be possible. By that time, a realization outlined, namely whether my cables would be suitable as an intermediary in a higher category and cope with other cables. I came across a cable which had such a big difference of energy level between its two ends that I had never experienced before. I knew it was the one I had been looking for. Happily, according to the usual assembly process I made it...but the output was terrible. I believed that the cable could not be bad, so I thought it over and assembled it on the basis of a complete different concept. The output was brilliant – at least I liked it – until half an hour when the sound went mute, and it became much more unlistenable than during the copper run-in, but after a 200-hour observation on run-in, the first sample of Gold Reference was put into existence that only needed to be worked out, tested, run in etc. Its main material is gold. All went well, I spent all my money on cables, plugs etc. With hard work the final design of the cables was formed. It became totally ordinary, but from the experts I was awarded with the expression of ugly as well. At that time it made me a bit angry, so I had to make a complete sheath change. The larger models of the copper series got an industrial fabric sheath, while that of the Gold Series was made of glass, even coated with 24 carat gold. I gave the name to the cable Emanation. I think that this term expresses the characteristics of the cable most, since it means outflow, radiation, commandment.

Pro 600

The result that comes from the quality of the material and the assembly technology that serves the highest output demands, or the appropriate insertion of audio systems requiring extra energy to their acoustic environment. Using the highest possible quality materials during the construction of the cable and subordinating everything to the maximum transmission of energy.

Reference 500

The mean:
Most audio systems require additional energy within the frame of linearity. This requirement is served by the 500 series. It creates harmony between the audio components by making spares in the system. Hence, the system is not overstrained compared to its capabilities, a little laxity can be allowed between the insertion of the audio components, or the elements of the acoustic environment connecting to this, e.g. power supply, the equipment stand or the room where the listening of the audio system takes place. It can be ordered together with high quality plugs for the sake of avoiding compromises.

Reference 300

Since the quality of the applied material corresponds to that of the higher numbered models, the quality represented by the 300 series is similar. Recommended for all audio components, or for controlling higher energy level audio system, overpositioned for their acoustic environment.

Reference 150

Entry-level model. Low-signal cable, the IC/XLR connector of the 300 series.

Gold Reference

In order to minimize losses, and the only audio cable system that meets the exclusive maximum demands. Aesthetics, similarly to sound, affects the user, so the aim is to attain the most desirable appearance, in the name of original exclusiveness. The Gold Reference Series achieves both the acoustics and aesthetics possibilities. As a manifestation of the efforts put on the elimination of transmission losses, the cable is able to mediate the dimension attainable by all sounds, bringing the listener in on the atmosphere of the musical experience on a very high level of energy. The system, put into operation exclusively with Gold Reference Series, breaks through the boundaries both physically and spiritually. It creates harmony between the acoustic components involving in the process of making sounds. The listener is not an exception for this, considering the fact that he/she is an active part of the system. The Gold Reference system helps with this by letting the energy and the signal flow through, and by a perfect display, it is capable of reinterpreting it for us.

CHARIO + EMANATION

As the distributor of the Chario speakers in Hungary, I managed to establish the best possible connection with Mario Marcello Murace, the design engineer and owner of Chario. He impressed me every occasion we met and the success of the Chario speakers is acknowledged all over the world. His philosophy about the attained sound and provided for the users formulated in his speakers is important for me. Similarly, I had a very positive view about the emanation audio cables, both as a user and a distributor. I was very curious about Mario's opinion, as his work and engineering competence could reinforce my idea of cables. After some discussions and arrangements, came the day that was very important for me. Mario welcomed me to the Chario's psycho-acoustic laboratory. By the scheduled time everything was prepared, in the laboratory there were only the source components applied by him, outstanding acoustics as well as a few Academic Sonnets looking forward to the signals for the transmission of which the Emanation audio cables would be responsible. After discussing some general information and the aesthetic presentation of the cables, the work began. Taking into account the specificity of the Emanation audio cables, we ensured the integrated connection all through, possibly from the power supply (plug), distribution, power, RCA, speaker cables etc. First, we connected the Pro 600 series.
In the following 30 minutes we let the system to get tuned up. Then, we both (me with lots of excitement) took our listener's position. The first item ended... “Brilliant”- said Mario excitedly. We listened to about 12 items, during which I tried to watch Mario's face, who abandoned himself to the musical experience with his eyes closed, and this experience was very surprising for me as well. His sentences -said during the items-like “it is very very good that the theatre, the musical instruments, the sounds and everything is in the right place” etc.- were very reassuring for me. The emanation products are very good! After clapping each other's shoulders, shaking hands and praising words, we connected the top cable of emanation audio, the Gold Reference. Similarly, as in the case of Pro 600, we allowed the system to get tuned up for about half an hour. We listened to the same 12 items. The satisfaction, the outbreak of spontaneous praising words increased. Mario always had some positive comments between every other item. “Can you also hear that the stage got a bit backwards, the air around the musicians were even more, and that the position of the musicians and their instruments etc. is tactile both horizontally and vertically?” The feeling of presence drew us into the music beyond all expectations. I received Mario Marcello Murace's words with pleasant feelings, since he is the dreamer, the inventor and designer of the Chario speakers, and for nearly 40 years he is the engineer of one of the most well-known speaker brands. Then, I asked Carlo Vicenzetto, the co-owner of Chario, who is responsible for commerce and marketing, to listen to the cables, tell his opinion and give me some business advice, and if he liked what he had heard, to recommend the Emanation audio cables to all distributors of Chario all through the globe. After this so called joy music, Carlo assured me from a marketing point of view as well (after getting to know about the prices). It contained only acknowledgements and congratulations. “The Emanation audio cables have a bright future and are worthy to belong to the best cables in the world!”

My own concept

During the development I noticed a phenomenon related to the increasing of the cross-section, namely that the information flowing through, appears with more and more increasing energy, higher sense of presence and bigger quantity. Following a lot of auditions, I managed to choose the ideal cross-section. In the case of Interconnect and USB cables, this is 150, in that of cord, interconnect and speaker cables, they are 300, 500 and 600. In digital cables there are 280 core wires due to the 75 and 100 ohm. A core wire has 0.06 mm diameter, while in the case of the 600 series, this is 700mm. It was important that listening to the cables after running in, they could not cause any information losses, dynamic limitations for the sound, and any kind of band limitations or cover. To receive positive opinions, I did a lot of testings for many years, and if needed, I modified the final assembly parameters. The output was a direct sound image without any limitations that creates unity among the listener, the sound and the audio system, suggesting a sense of perfection. I have to note that it presumes matching hi-fi components, in a way that every cable that serves the connection is emanation audio. A lot of times some narrowing cross-section left in the system caused distorted sound image, since cables owing to their permeable characteristic, also transmitted the errors. After elimination, there were not any audible distortion that would have taken away the motivation to play. The question: how much loss do we have to take into account no matter it cannot be noticed, or the sound became usual, although the system worked well and was enjoyable. The answers to these questions were put by further development. Since I could not find a better base material than copper, I had to use other materials. I realized that this is the maximum I could achieve by using copper and the result of all comparing tests was that this material could not be any better, at least at the current standard of technology. The solution was a new material composed of precious metal, gilded with 24carat gold, having an excellent conductivity. Mostly, it was awesome how the loss reduced as for the information and energy were concerned. It brought about everything I had been looking for so far in a coaxial assembly system, or it became achievable to reduce the losses within the audio system even further. This cable demanded such high standards that it deserves only the highest quality connectors. Further improvement came together with the new sheath developed exclusively for the Gold Reference Series, that as opposed to the general practice, does not have to be insulated from the conductor, but it is a part of it, since due to its capabilities of excellent insulator and vibration reducer, it leads away all kinds of harmful resonances. Its base material is glass, which can be coated by precious metal, so it creates an astonishing effect together with the applied and colour-matching connectors. Glass is one of the best electrical insulators, and it cannot be charged electrostatically, so its use was a step forward in technology. The assembly of the sheath made of several thousand single pieces is a meticulous handwork. All phases of the assembly of all the cables are done manually, from putting the core wires next to each other in a template, through the integration of the insulator, to the soldering.
